I’ve finally edited my Mindy Kaling vlog! She came to San Francisco in November to promote her book, Why Not Me?, and I got tickets to her Q&A with Michael Lewis for my sister’s birthday. Sister came to town, we played around for the day, eating Ike’s sandwiches at Dolores Park and watching the sea lions sleep and tustle at Pier 69, before spending the evening with Mindy and Michael.
I’ve loved Mindy since her Kelly Kapoor days, so this was a wonderful day for me. I’ve included some advice that she gave in my video. Unfortunately, one of the event organizers would yell at people filming and flash her flashlight at them, so I was only able to capture a little bit and didn’t get her best advice on camera. The advice in the video is good, but what resonated the most for me was when she told a questioner that people, especially females, can’t depend on encouragement to support and drive them to reach their goals. Encouragement will come later after you’ve already starting achieving success; in the meantime, you have to persevere and encourage yourself as you work toward achieving your goals.
Let me know what you think of the book if you’ve read it (I love it)!
